I look for quiet moments and seemingly unnoticed pieces of life, both great and small, and work to create images that are a balance of technique and creativity. I believe a photograph is successful if it grabs your attention, then draws you in to view it more closely, revealing details and transporting you to another world.
I use traditional film and darkroom techniques for a variety of reasons, in particular because of the beauty of the results.
Attending U.C. Santa Cruz, Kameran graduated in 1984 with a degree in Politics (political science), with additional coursework that included music theory, electronic music, and computer programming. After college, he worked in the computer industry as a technical writer and played guitar in rock bands, including Internet music-performance pioneer Deth Specula (www.deth.com.)
In 1998, he hung up his ax, picked up a camera, and hasn't looked back. Setting foot in a darkroom for the first time in 2000, Kameran is mostly self-taught using textbooks, although he has attended a few photography workshops taught by Mark Citret and Bruce Barnbaum.
He has exhibited his photos in the Santa Cruz Open Studios Art Tour (2004 through 2007), at the Michaelangelo Gallery in Santa Cruz (2005), and at other local venues.
