Smoke Over the Southern Sierras, California
The smoke you see here, hanging over the Southern Sierras,
is likely from the Vista fire, which was burning
at the time I took this photo.
(See MODIS Active Fire Detections - August 25, 2007.)
In early August, large swaths of the Mojave had been choked
by smoke blowing in from
the Zaca fire in the Los Padres National Forest — two-hundred some-odd
miles by car from where this photo was taken.
